Mary B. Outley
Family, Friends & Community Members,

The 2025–26 school year is officially underway! Today, students in grades 1–12 returned to classrooms, and kindergarten appointments continue through tomorrow. A new school year brings more than sharpened pencils and fresh lesson plans. It brings renewed momentum, a deepened sense of purpose, and a shared belief in the power of public education.

In this week’s update, you’ll find important back-to-school dates, details on our approved school safety agreement with the City of Akron and Akron Police Department, enrollment information, opportunities to partner with our College and Career Academies, and highlights from APS athletics. You’ll also see tips from Dr. Merkle to help families ease into the school year, along with community events and resources to explore.

Thank you for the energy and support you bring to APS. Together, we’re ready for a year of learning, growth, and success.
